What a record here tells you

Each record answers five questions on one page: whether the board’s records hold the record at all; the status in the board’s own words, with a plain-English reading; whether the credential is a license or a registration — and what that distinction means in that state; when it expires, next to the date of the records the answer came from; and the bond and insurance on file, with what a bond actually lets you do.

What absence means — and doesn’t

If a business isn’t in a state’s pages, it isn’t in that board’s published records as of their date. Each state’s records hold a different set — Florida’s, by DBPR’s own statement, leave out delinquent and null-and-void licenses entirely — so every search result and every state page states what its records contain before it says what a missing record means.

Studies: what the records themselves say

The records have patterns no single license page can show: in some states a revoked license disappears from the records entirely; in Vermont’s current list, about one record in six is past its own expiration date; most Washington credentials are registrations, not licenses.
