How to read these records
Every record on this site comes from the licensing board named on the page. Each page shows the board’s own words for the status, the date of the board’s records the page came from, and a link to the board’s own lookup, which is always the live source.
The rules the pages follow
- Verbatim statuses. A status prints exactly as the board records it — including the board’s abbreviations and, where they occur, its misspellings. Plain-English help explains the recorded word; it never replaces it. A status this site cannot document is left as the board recorded it, never guessed into plainer words.
- A date next to every status. Each record carries the date of the board’s records beside its status. A record here is a statement about the board’s records on that date, not about today; the board’s own live lookup is linked on every page.
- Licensed means licensed. Where a state registers rather than licenses (Washington construction contractors; Florida’s Registered class), the page says registration. The two words are never interchanged.
- Absence is stated as absence. If a record is not in a board’s published records, the page says what those records contain and what absence from them means. This site never concludes from absence that a business lacks a license.
- Discipline only as the board publishes it. Where a board publishes discipline records, they print as recorded, with the dates they cover. Where it doesn’t, the page says so and points to the board — an absent discipline section never implies a clean record.
- Current instruments only. A bond or policy prints when the board’s records carry it as current. Cancelled and expired instruments are never presented as cover.
What is never published
- Street addresses — locality (city, state, ZIP, county) only.
- Email addresses, phone numbers, and fax numbers, even where a board’s records carry them.
- Records about people as standalone pages. Individuals appear only as part of a business’s license record (a qualifier, principal, or signer of record).
- Ratings, reviews, scores, or endorsements. There is nothing here to rate with.
When a record changes or disappears
Boards update their records on their own schedules, and the pages here are refreshed to match. If a record leaves a board’s current records, its page is marked as no longer in the board’s current records and removed from search indexes; if it stays absent, the page becomes a dated archive view — the URL keeps resolving, and the page states plainly when the record was last in the board’s records. Corrections reported by readers are acknowledged within one business day and resolved or answered within two.

Record histories on this site reach back only to when each state’s records were first gathered here, and pages do not pretend otherwise.
