Privacy policy

Last updated: November 3, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how LicenseOfRecord.com (the “Operator”) handles information in connection with this website (the “Site”). Questions may be sent to [email protected].

Information you provide

If you file a correction or suppression report, the Site receives the state, record or license number, report category, description, and any email address you choose to give for an acknowledgment. If you write to [email protected], the Operator receives your name and email address as displayed by your email service, the subject and body of your message, and any information or attachments you include.

Please do not include sensitive personal information in a report unless it is necessary to identify the record, establish authority to act, or document an urgent safety or legal request.

Information received automatically

When you use the Site, servers and security systems ordinarily receive and record the requested page or resource, date and time, referring page, browser and device information or user agent, response status, and Internet Protocol (IP) address. These server records are used to operate and secure the Site, diagnose faults, prevent abuse, and understand aggregate traffic.

Searches are part of ordinary Site use. A license check, finder search, or other query you enter may be included in the address of the resulting page and therefore may appear in server records and analytics in the same manner as other page addresses. Do not enter personal information into a search field; searches are intended for business names, license numbers, trades, and places.

Google Analytics and cookies

LicenseOfRecord uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4), provided by Google, to measure visits and understand, in aggregate, which pages and features are useful. When GA4 is enabled in a browser that accepts its cookies, Google may place or read cookies, including cookies whose names begin with _ga, to distinguish browsers and devices, remember analytics settings, and measure repeat visits. GA4 may receive information such as pages viewed, approximate location inferred from IP address, browser and device characteristics, referring addresses, and interactions with Site features.

The Operator uses analytics information to maintain and improve the Site; it does not use GA4 to identify a reader by name. Google handles information it receives under Google’s own terms and privacy disclosures. You may block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and Google provides an analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking cookies may not affect your ability to read public records on the Site.

The Operator does not place advertising cookies on the Site. Essential technical records needed to deliver and secure pages may still be created as described above.

The license records

The records displayed on the Site are public records made available by state and District licensing boards. They generally concern a business credential and may include the business name, license or registration number, status, classifications, dates, locality, bond or insurance information recorded by the board, and the names of people identified by the board in an official capacity in connection with that credential.

The Site is designed not to display street addresses, telephone numbers, fax numbers, or email addresses in license records, even where a board’s public record contains such a field. People are not given standalone Site profiles merely because a board identifies them in connection with a business credential.

Publication by the Operator does not change the underlying board record. A privacy, accuracy, or safety concern about information displayed on this Site should be sent through the process in the Data & Corrections Policy or to [email protected]. To change the government record itself, contact the issuing board; its own lookup is linked from the record.

How information is used

The Operator uses information described in this Policy to:

When information is disclosed

The Operator may disclose information to service providers that host the Site, provide security or email services, or supply analytics, solely so they can perform services for the Site. It may consult or refer a correction question to the issuing board when necessary to verify a public record or direct the requester to the authority that can change that record.

Information may also be disclosed when the Operator reasonably believes disclosure is required by law or legal process; necessary to respond to a court order or regulator; necessary to protect safety or prevent serious harm; or necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. If the Site or a substantial part of its operations is transferred, relevant information may be transferred subject to applicable law and appropriate notice.

No sale of personal information

The Operator does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. The Operator does not sell or provide Site records for employment, credit, insurance, housing, or other eligibility decisions; those uses are prohibited by the Terms of Use.

Retention

Server and security records are retained only for so long as reasonably necessary for operations, troubleshooting, security, and legal compliance, after which they are deleted or kept only in aggregate form. Analytics information is retained in accordance with the Site’s Google Analytics settings and Google’s applicable retention controls.

Correction and suppression submissions, related communications, and a record of the action taken may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to administer the request, preserve an audit trail for the affected record, demonstrate that the request was handled, and comply with legal obligations. Retaining that handling record does not mean the disputed Site content remains displayed; suppression and correction decisions continue to be honored as described in the Data & Corrections Policy.

Security

The Operator uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. No Internet transmission or electronic storage system can be guaranteed completely secure, and the Operator cannot warrant absolute security.

Your choices and privacy requests

Depending on where you live, applicable law may give you rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information the Operator holds about you, and to object to or limit certain handling. To make a request, email [email protected] with enough information to identify the relevant information and verify that you are entitled to act on it. The Operator may request reasonable additional information before acting where verification is necessary.

Some information may be retained or continue to be displayed where the law permits or requires it, including information necessary to maintain an audit trail, comply with a legal obligation, resolve disputes, or present a public record accurately. A request concerning a license record will be handled under the Data & Corrections Policy; deleting information from this Site would not delete or amend the board’s own record.

You may control cookies through your browser. You may also contact the Operator before submitting a form if you have a question about how a request will be handled.

Children

The Site is intended for adults researching public business-license records. It is not directed to children under 13, and the Operator does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the Site. A parent or guardian who believes such information was submitted may contact [email protected].

Changes to this Policy

The Operator may update this Policy from time to time. The revised Policy will be posted on this page with a new update date. Material changes will be handled in accordance with applicable law.
